Alex Vargas, Delta Goodrem, Mallory Knox, Muse – Weekly Review Weekly Week 7 2018 Weekly Review Number 1!

The carnival bustle is over, Lent has begun! However, we do not want to do without good music, so today there are three new releases and unfortunately also some sad news for you:

Alex Vargas – Slowly (Draft)

The Dane Alex Vargas is unfortunately not yet known. The fact that this should change as quickly as possible proves the first single of the second album. “Slowly (Draft)” pulls all the quality registers and makes everything right as an acoustic singer / songwriter number. Compared to the debut album “Cohere”, which hovered somewhere between James Blake and London Grammar, Vargas now reduced to guitar and voice and thus does not reinvent the wheel, but adds to the genre for another beautiful moment. If you like that, you also have to listen in to other songs by the artist. With the indie hit “Solid Ground”, the 30-year-old artist from our neighboring country already appeared at Joko & Klaas’ show “Circus Halligalli” and gained a little bit of attention. May he succeed with his new song as well. Big festivals like Rock am Ring or Lollapalloza made him perform as early as 2017 – there’s certainly going to be plenty in 2018. A tip for friends of intimate sounds! (Christopher)

Delta Goodrem – Think About You

Otherwise known mainly for her piano ballads, the Australian singer Delta presents Goodrem (“Lost Without You”) with “Think About You” this week, a song of a different kind. The new track, which could possibly be the harbinger of a new studio album, presents itself sexy and with a catchy beat, both for relax, as well as on the dance floor. What remains is Delta Goodrem’s powerful voice, which already makes “Think About You” a spring highlight. (Yvonne)

Singer Mikey Chapman leaves Mallory Knox

Shock for all Mallory Knox Fans: This week the English alternative band announced that vocalist Mikey Chapman is leaving the band after nearly 9 years! Some had already guessed and also in our interview with Mikey last year we already talked about his plan B. Mallory Knox but do not let it get over! New to the vocals with bassist Sam Douglas, they already want to release new music next week and announce a big UK tour for April. We wish Mikey all the best and look forward to hearing the new Mallory Knox chapter. (Yvonne)

Muse – Thought Contagion

On Friday, the new muse single dropped and after “Dig Down” from 2017 another one dropped A taste of the eighth studio longplayer. First of all, a very good news, the three British are now for almost twenty years with their own powerful, playful and at the same time enormously sophisticated rock sound attention. Unfortunately, after the first listen, there is some disillusionment, as “Thought Contagion” presents the unmistakable voice of Matthew Bellamy the way we want it, but everything else worries a bit. Despite far forward mixed piano in the verses, some gimmicks and sharp e-guitar sounds, the hook goes backwards with their “Oho” Stadium-Mitsingrefrain. Since when do Muse steal from 30 Seconds to Mars or Imagine Dragons? This is new, but unfortunately neither great creative nor really catchy. Catching is not everything. Let’s hope that sounds different on album length. When that will be heard, is currently still unclear. (Christopher)
